What would Grindr be like if it offered opportunities to actually connect with people rather than just react according to our base instincts? This book about Grindr aims to do just that. For far too long, gay men moan and complain about gay dating apps, and yet they feel powerless to do anything about it. Grindr and "app culture" have radically transformed how members of the gay community interact, and while finding “dates” has become easier, it seems as if finding anything of substance has become near impossible. We're just surviving apps like Grindr, rather than using them to live fully in the moment.
Grindr Survivr is a book designed to give readers a guide on how to find happiness in the new age of dating apps. It gives readers a thorough understanding of how Grindr is changing the gay scene, and by extension, how such apps have changed each of us as individuals. Often, we aren’t even aware of how deeply we’ve been changed by these apps, but we can’t expect a different result until we look at ourselves, our behavior patterns and our community and resolve to transform all of them.
Grindr users are encouraged to follow the “Gay Commandments” that every gay man should live by if Grindr users want to find relationships of substance (or even merely stop suffering and worrying about what happens online). The Gay Commandments aren’t preachy at all, but rather they are a call to interject a moral baseline into online behavior – but all the while the book gives honest and humorous anecdotes from his own personal dating experience. The author's not afraid to reveal his own failings in order to help readers learn from his mistakes. The Gay Commandments also include numerous “action points” that are that are designed to give readers new insights and new results (rather than just stating an overwhelming problem and not giving you anything to do about it). Readers will laugh and see themselves in the author’s unique and wry perspectives on gay dating.
Dating apps like Grindr and Tinder are here to stay. It's time to stop surviving these apps and start using them to thrive.

TLDR: Don’t be a jerk, treat people on apps like you would in life, and keep a thick skin for others who won’t. Rinse, repeat, and you’ll find the right person. Not to sound holier than thou, but I’ve tried this formula for years, and more often than not, I get dates with quality guys. Sure there are bad moments, but by and large I have good experiences.
So give this book a shot! At the very least you’ll learn a little bit about yourself and, if you practice what’s preached, come out a little bit kinder.

Grindr Survivor How to Find Happiness in the Age of Hookup Apps edition by Andrew Londyn Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
I've been single for a while myself, so I found this book really helpful. It wasn't just about "finding a man" but it also dealt with a lot of issues that I had been thinking, but I wasn't sure if other people were thinking the same thing. I agree with the author that we definitely need a moral code for online dating.
In some ways I am more frustrated than ever and hopeful in others. In terms of asking others, I don't look anywhere my age. If I put my age, I am ignored. If not, I feel like a fake. I have used some of those great photos dug from the pile of 'Oh My God' horrors. I tend to use the reality ones now. I have always had a devious child inside of me and don't relate to the retired til death type and certainly not the just out of diapers bunch. Anything between 30 and 50 seem more interested in young sex which is not worth the time for me; deviating from that rule occasionally. Between those and the phonies deployed in Kuait, I am not so sure I will ever meet anyone again. This book has a lot of great points and suggestions but throughout the book, I felt the hot guys still getting too much focus. I fall for personalities and have no type. My friends can't understand why I am single but no blind dates offered from their plate of acquaintances. LOL. I am going to use the commandments and self-exploration but I already know a lot of them. I am a psychotherapist so trying not to throw my phone at the wall. It wouldn't look good. Haha. Was that long enough and confusing?
I'm sure all gay guys will relate to many parts of this book if not all of it. If everyone used the 'Grindr commandments' then dating apps would be a more pleasurable experience. I'd recommend all gay guys to read this book and put into practice the advice given.
To quote the book
Here’s the truth you probably did meet the right guy; you were just too blind to see it! You were either being a Sleeping Beauty of Mindless Shagging Zombie.
Andrew hits the nail on the head in so many ways in this book. It certainly made me think about my own often very poor dating etiquette and how that's contributing to a much wider problem in the gay community, especially among gay men. Grindr Survivr will be uncomfortable reading for many guys, I reckon, but this isn't a negative, shaming book. Like all the best advice, it's about making you think about your own actions, taking some responsibility, and trying to be better.
I found this book very helpful in shifting my thinking about online dating towards being more strategic and optimistic in my search for a relationship using dating apps. It was a great way to assess my own behavior and how I might like to change it for the better so as not to continue to perpetuate certain negative aspects of online dating culture in the gay community. Andrew has some great ideas about how we as gay men can be more supportive and polite to one another on the apps and beyond. I would definitely recommend this book to any and all men who are interested in men.
I was skeptical when I bought this book since i only viewed Grindr as a hookup site to use guys. But, the author totally changed my mind. Through his own personal experiences, he affirmed my weaknesses and doubts, and he also confirmed my strengths and desires. I'm now better equipped to look for quality whether I'm trying to hookup, date, or just chat with friends. I know me better. Look out Grindr, I'm informed. Lol.
Spitting Truth
This book is fun and easy to read and I can't put it down. The author's definitely saying what we've all been thinking. We all kind of know what goes on online is kind of sketchy, but at least, he's trying to do something about it. I like the Grindr commandments; they are so true! You've got to look in the mirror before you can blame everyone else. Truth!
TLDR Don’t be a jerk, treat people on apps like you would in life, and keep a thick skin for others who won’t. Rinse, repeat, and you’ll find the right person.
Not to sound holier than thou, but I’ve tried this formula for years, and more often than not, I get dates with quality guys. Sure there are bad moments, but by and large I have good experiences.
